Policies

Arrival and pick-up: Young children depend on regular routines for their own sense of security. We recommend that you establish fixed hours to pick-up and drop-off your child. Parents must acompany children in and out of the facility every day. Children will only be accepted and released in the presence of either the Caregiver or the Substitute. Upon arrival to the daycare in the morning, children need to be taken to the cubbies. The children can then be taken to the supervised area where the Caregiver is at the time. The Caregiver will then mark the child present for the day. Unless otherwise arranged children will not be released to anyone other than those specified by the parent/guardian. Please also note that if the pick up person arrives at the center and appears to be intoxicated or heavily scented with alcohol or drugs, other arrangements for pick up must be made. Assistance by staff will be given to make these arrangements as necessary.

Nutrition: We are committed to providing healthy meals and snacks for the children based on the federal guides. A nutritious morning and afternoon snack will be provided. Children’s special dietary needs and allergies will be posted in the cooking and serving area. Special dietary needs must be filled out on a separate form and signed by the parents to have in the children’s file as well.

Emergencies: Emergency telephone numbers are posted at each telephone, as are our emergency evacuation plans. Once a month the children and the staff will practice these fire, emergency and severe weather evacuation plans.

Child Abuse: “Everyone who has a reason to believe that a child has been or is likely to be physically abused, sexually abused, emotionally abused, and/or neglected is legally responsible under the Child, Family, and Community Service Act to report the matter to a child protection worker. In British Columbia, a child is anyone under the age of 19.” (Quoted from The B.C. Handbook for Action on Child Abuse and Neglect)

Reportable Incidents: A Reportable Incident Form will be completed within 24 hours of the injury/incident. Staff present at the time of injury/accident will be responsible for notifying the parents/guardians, complete and sign the form, file the original copy in the facility and submit a copy to the licencing officer.

Field trips: Throughout the year, trips are made to special places of interest. A notice will be sent home in advance of the excursions informing you of the destination, time and date. It will include a permission slip to be signed and returned.

Parental Involvement: During your child’s stay at Daisy Daycare we welcome the parents to join us for school trips. It is a real help to have extra hands on trips. Daily, please feel free to approach any staff for questions but please remember that we need to be watching the children at all times. You may also give us a quick call, or write a quick note listing any concerns that we could help with. For your convenience, we have a suggestion box. We also have an Open-Door Policy which encourages parents to observe and visit as often as possible. Appointments are not necessary, however would be appreciated. Individual Parent Meetings will be scheduled at the request of parents.

Holiday/Sick Leave: Daisy Daycare observes the following statutory holidays: New Years Day, Good Friday, Victoria Day, Canada Day, B.C. Day, Labour Day, Thanksgiving Day, Rememberance Day and Christmas Day. Please make sure to recognize these closure dates on your calendar. There are no refunds for days missed. If a statutory holiday falls on a day that your child is normally in attendance, full payment is required.

Absence: When a child is absent for any reason, the parent/guardian must notify the daycare by 9:00 in the morning. If the child is absent from the daycare for more than 10 days without notice, the child will be withdrawn from the daycare. Communication regarding the absence of the child from public school or separate school is the parent’s responsibility.

Clothing: Clothing should be adequate for the weather with a complete change of clothing to be left at the Center. Please send your child with clothing that is easily managed and comfortable. Slippers or soft shoes are preferred for indoor use. Boots are a must for wet weather and should be left here. In summer, bathing suit, towel, hat, sunglasses and sunscreen are required to be left at the Center. Mats, sheets, pillows and blankets are provided for optional Nap Time.

Health: In case of emergency or accident, an ambulance/taxi may be called. Any expense incurred will be the parent responsibility. It is the parent responsibility, prior to registration to have alternate care arrangements in case of sickness. A sick child cannot be accepted at the center. To comply with licensing regulations, prescribed medicine by a doctor will be administered to children only on receipt of completed signed medication form.

Birthdays: We celebrate at snack or lunch time with a Happy Birthday Song and a special Birthday Crown. Parents may provide a special treat if they wish. If you are sending a cake make sure it does NOT contain NUTS.
